Dreaming Again

“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord. ‘Plans to prosper you, not harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future.” -Jeremiah 29:11

Did you know that before you were even born, God had a plan and a dream for your life? He knew exactly what you’d look like, how you’d sound, what you would love…He knew what your dreams, goals, and aspirations would be. He was intentional in His design with you.

The Father has dreams and a vision for your life that He’s inviting you to discover. It’s time to dream with Him again.

Dreaming After Pain

After we’ve experienced pain, loss, trauma, or wounding in our lives, it can be intimidating to dream again. Maybe following a dream led you to the place of hurt. Maybe a dream that was so significant for you didn’t work out and you had to let it go. If this is your story, you’re not alone.

It can feel scary and risky to dream again. But, the truth is the place of disappointment and pain and the perfect place to encounter the heart of the Father. He longs to meet with us in that vulnerable place that feels unworthy of being touched or seen.

God and Dreams

We were made in the image of God. When we allow ourselves to dream and cast vision for our lives, we step into another area of our identity and calling. God Himself is a dreamer and when we dream, we do what our Father in heaven is doing. He is inviting us to dream with Him once again.

Our dreams are not separate from the Father or our identity in Him. In fact, He has placed within each of us specific dreams of things He desires to see happen on earth. God wants to use our lives to advance His Kingdom on earth. God wants and needs your dreams to make HIS dreams become a reality.

Big vs Little Dreams

You may be thinking one of two things: “I don’t even know what my dreams are. How can I see them come to pass if they don’t exist?” Or, “My dreams are way too big for me to see them happen. I can’t make those dreams come true.” Both statements carry a measure of truth…but there’s more to the story.

If your dreams feel too small or non-existent:

First, that’s okay! It’s never too late to become a dreamer. Look at Abraham and Sarah. They carried the dream in their hearts to become parents for ages! It wasn’t until they were 99 and 100 that their dream became a reality. God isn’t in a rush with you. Dreams don’t follow a specific, human timeline.

We want to encourage you to sit with God and allow Him to influence your dreams. Ask Him some questions about who you are and what He has in store for you. Who are you called to impact? What does He want to bring to earth through your life? What are His thoughts for your family and your friendships? What does He want to do in your life? If you ask, He will answer!

If your dreams feel too big or intimidating:

Bill Johnson says, “If I truly believe God is good, then I must dream big.” We cannot comprehend the magnitude of God. He is so much bigger and greater than our human brains can fathom. The dreams that He places within the hearts of His children are a reflection of His nature.

Believe it or not, this is actually a good problem to have! God-sized dreams will feel too big or maybe even impossible for us in our humanity. But, the Lord never said we would have to make our dreams a reality all by ourselves. He promises to be with us and He is faithful to keep every promise. As we follow Him, leaning back into His arms and looking at His face, He makes a way for our dreams to come to pass.

An Invitation to Dream Big

There’s an invitation here and now from God to dream big (again) with Him. The Lord isn’t done with us yet. He has infinitely more for our lives. He has plans and dreams that we can’t understand, but that are good and beautiful. Will you say yes to the invitation?
